Jay Park to star in his own reality show

Jay Park will be starring in his own reality show on MBC!

Although the concept seems to still be up in the air, MBC’s Every1 PD has announced on “Hello TV” magazine that Jay Park will be showing various different sides of him in the new show previously set to air this month.

The magazine excerpt states, “The Jaebeom we all know is returning in October with a bit of a simple reality program and with a bit of a difference from his former image. He may not even be able to answer some of the questions that people are curious of. Maybe he will look awkward and shy since he’s alone now. However, he will express his story with his entire body by showing off his earnest dance moves. With the constant change in temperature fluctuating from hot to cold, an awkward shell might enclose him. But we only believe it’s because of the appropriate climate changes that has allowed him to ripen. Having passed two seasons now, he is concentrating on his own dream. We might be able to find out a little more about this 24 year old young man.”

Unfortunately, the show is being delayed upon his request, as revealed on the PD’s Twitter, “Not canceled, but delayed. And it’s his decision.” The PD also revealed, “The broadcast seems like it will be delayed for a while. I’m sorry, but once the date is confirmed, I will be revealing a little bit of what has been recorded. Please show us your patience and support Jaebeom on his upcoming album preparations.”

SM Mall of Asia Complex, Bay City, Pasay City

Korean pop singer Jay Park — known as Jaebeom Park to his Korean fans — has been on the comeback trail this year. He landed in the Philippines on the last leg of hisFan Meet Tour, to be held at the SMX Convention Center on Oct. 3.

“I haven’t gone out to look around so far but everything’s been good, and everyone’s given me a warm welcome… its been great,” Mr. Park told reporters at a press conference at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati on Wednesday.

Although this is Mr. Park’s first visit to the country, he has been acquainted with Filipino culture for a very long time. “I had a couple of Filipino friends back in high school and I would always go to their house,” he said.

In addition to this, three of the six members of his dance crew are of Filipino heritage, and he has been friends with two of them for almost eight years.

Mr. Park talked about wanting to eat lumpia and adobo while here, and about his desire to collaborate with singer Charice Pempengco, “I know Charice is doing big things right now, much love to her.”

As a young Korean-American born and raised in Seattle, Washington, he has always been interested in hip-hop music and breakdancing. Determined to succeed, he took his mother’s advice and auditioned as a rapper and dancer for JYP Entertainment, a Korean-based record label.

Mr. Park nailed the audition and trained for four years in Seoul. He eventually debuted as the leader of a seven-member boy group called 2PM in 2008.

Even before becoming a member of the group, his talents were already recognized as he was able to collaborate with a number of Korean singers — which is very uncommon for trainee performers. His natural charm also landed him spots on several Korean TV variety shows.

The group catapulted to fame a year later with their Again and Again album promotions.

But fame was short-lived.

At the peak of 2PM’s popularity, comments about Korea made by Mr. Park on his personal MySpace account in 2005 were leaked on the Internet. The media went on a feeding frenzy which ultimately led to his departure from the group and from Korea.

After a long hiatus, he made a surprise reappearance online when he registered a YouTube account and uploaded a video of himself singing his version of B.O.B’s “Nothin’ On You” on March 15 this year. The video went viral, garnering about 1.5 million views in less than 24 hours. It was enthusiastically received by old and new fans alike.

“I didn’t really knew who the artist was,” he said when asked why he chose that song. “It wasn’t that popular back then… I just heard it on the radio and fell in love with it.”

After a roller-coaster ride of a year, Mr. Park is back in the music scene with a new single called “Count On me.”

Mr. Park is also set to star in an upcoming American dance film titled Hype Nation which began shooting in Korea last June.

He expressed his gratitude to his fans as he told reporters that he had the name of his fanclub, “Jaywalkerz,” tattooed on his back last week to show his appreciation for their support.

When asked what he learned from his rise and fall and resurrection, he told reporters “the most important thing is to be good to people around you and to the fans because if you’re a good person, everyone will have your back.”

The EP Count On Me is being distributed by Warner Music Korea and has already been released in Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand and now in the Philippines. It includes a full melody version of “Count On Me (Nothin’ On You)” in Korean and English, with a special remix version.

Tickets for Jay Park: Fan Meet Tour cost P4,980; P1,980; and P980. For inquiries and reservations contact TicketWorld at 891-9999 or SM Tickets 470-2222. For limited VIP tickets, call 374-9999.

Jay Park’s Close Ties with Filipinos

While K Pop Superstar and Hollywood actor Rain is 100% homegrown in Korea the roots of his heir apparent is more mixed. The younger, more boyish Jay Park is considered by a lot of people to follow in the footsteps of Rain who recently held his successful “Intensity” concert here in Manila last September. Jay Park will have a concert together with the Art of Movement produced by Wilbros Inc. at the SMX Center this October 3, 2010, Sunday. An indication of his success is his single “Count On Me” made available as a download on cell phones by texting JP to 5677 which is open to all networks. Smart subscribers have the chance to see Jay Park for free by joining the TST promo. Log on to: http://www.facebook.com/notes/smart-communications-inc/jay-parks-fan-meet-tour-2010/440670203475

Right after the pres con there was an impromptu handstand contest, AOM showed their athleticism

Park’s parents moved to the U.S. and he grew up in Seattle. He initially found fame in Korea as part of the group 2PM. After his departure from the group he went back to his roots in Seattle where he teamed up with a few of the homeboys he grew up with. Their group of friends formed the dance crew Art of Movement. They call themselves a ‘brotherhood’ of dancers, b boys. Incidentally some of his best friends are Filipinos he grew up with in his neighborhood who are now a part of Art of Movement or AOM for short.

He has known, Daniel “Step Roc” Jerome since they were in Pre School. Jerome’s parents are both Filipinos but he has never been to the Philippines himself. Chase “Cha cha” Malone is another friend, his mom is from Cebu and his dad is African American. Park said, “I was able to taste lumpia andadobo because Chase’ mom makes them. I loved them way before I got here to Manila.” His experience is very similar to Adam Lambert who grew up in San Diego with Filipino friends and loved the food. Lambert will have a concert in Mall of Asia slated for October 10.

Choreographer Andrew Baterina who is with them for the concert is also Filipino. Park met him later and admired Baterina’s work. Park explained, “Filipinos are known for their talents in singing and dancing. A lot of choreographers in the U.S. are Filipinos. Now we have Drew with AOM.”

Michael Jackson and Usher are two of Park’s main influences in singing and dancing. As a rapper he idolizes Tupac Shakur, Eminem, Naz, Jay Z and Canibus. During the press conference, Park admitted that he would like to collaborate with Charice. And much like Charice, he was able to distinguish himself as a solo performer on You Tube. His self produced video of the Asian version of “Nothing on You” by B.O.B was able to attract 1.5 million views in the span of 24 hours. This has lead to the launch of his EP “Count On Me” through Warner Music Group Asia Pacific.

“Jay Park is definitely an international star that will draw a wide range of fans. We knew there were two Filipinos in AOM but now we’re glad to find out there are actually more of them. Some of the AOM members who weren’t able to make it here are also Filipinos. Jay has strong ties with us that started from his childhood. So the concert at the SMX this Sunday will be very memorable for him and his fans,” said Winston Llamas of Wilbros Inc. promoter of the event.  Park also ended his interview by saying, “Thank you to Filipinos. Mahal kita, peace.”

Jay Park: Second Shot at Fame Overwhelming

By JONATHAN M. HICAP
October 2, 2010, 2:37pm

MANILA, Philippines — K-pop rapper and b-boy Jay Park (aka Park Jaebum) has come full circle, rising from difficulties and controversies in the past year to successfully make a comeback to Korea and reclaim his throne as a compleat artist.

Jay met with Filipino and Korean press at the Dusit Thani Manila Hotel in Makati on Sept. 29 to promote his music and his upcoming Fan Meets Tour 2010 that will be held at the SMX Convention Center at the SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City on Oct. 3.

Brimming with confidence, the eloquent rap artist answered all questions with honesty, punctuating on the importance of being a positive person in pursuing his dreams.

Members of the press were allowed to ask questions even on controversial issues like Jay’s former group, 2PM. The presscon was not scripted unlike in a few press conferences for visiting Korean pop artists in the country wherein the questions were already prepared beforehand and just given to the media.

Jay is very happy about the fan meets. He not only gets to personally interact with fans but also, he is with his b-boy crew, Art of Movement (AOM), a Seattle-based group of which two members are of Filipinos descent.

He came back to South Korea in June to re-launch his music career and film his first ever movie, “Hype Nation.”

Asked by Bulletin Entertainment about the success of his new career as a solo artist, Jay said he is overwhelmed by the opportunities that are coming his way.

“It’s kind of really overwhelming because I never really planned on it. All these chances they just popped up. And I’m thinking that they’re really good opportunity and I’m just taking them. And I had to bring my friends along so it makes it even better,” he said, referring to AOM.

Jay’s comeback saw him releasing his cover version of “Nothin’ On You,” which is a duet with B.o.B. The song was awarded as the best international song for June in the Cyworld Digital Music Awards in Korea.

Then he released his EP “Count on Me” under Warner Music Group Asia Pacific, which contains the Korean and English versions of “Count on Me (Nothin’ on You).” The album will be released in the country on Oct. 1 under Warner Music Philippines.

Warner Music Asia Pacific said Jay “has crushed down the impossibility and proven his unlimited passion as a multi-talented artist” and has shown his potentials to become a global artist.

Jay said if there’s an opportunity, he’s interested in pursuing a singing career in the US, citing the success of Filipino Charice Pempengco, who recently appeared on the hit TV show “Glee.”

“Yeah. I really do have a lot of interest in that because I do listen to a lot of pop artists and rap artists from America. I do like that music a lot so one day hopefully I can break that barrier. I know Charice right now is doing big things over there,” Jay said.

Jay said his musical inspirations include the late Michael Jackson, Usher, Tupac, and Beyonce. When it comes to rapping, his influences include Eminem and Jay-Z. And in dancing, he cites AOM and Fil-Am choreographer Andrew Baterina as his inspirations.

If given the chance, Jay said he would like to collaborate with rap artist Drake, singer Usher and even Charice. He is also interested in doing a cover version of Bruno Mars’ “Just the Way You Are.”

He added that he and AOM would like to do another movie if given the chance.

“If the opportunity comes, I’m sure everybody would love to do another movie. ‘Hype Nation’ was really a good opportunity. Even if it’s not a dance movie, I’d love to do it,” Jay said.

Jay is so thankful for the support being given to him by his family, fans and AOM that he got tattoos to show his appreciation.

“All of them have special meaning to me. The one behind my ears is for my crew. The one on my chest is for my family. The one on my back is for my fans. Because they supported me so much through everything so I just want to show my appreciation,” he said.

Jay’s career in the K-pop scene started in 2008 when he was launched as the leader of boy band 2PM, originally composed of seven members.

But a controversy involving Jay’s entries on his MySpace account posted before his debut as member of 2PM triggered a barrage of criticisms from Korean netizens.

The growing criticism forced Jay to temporarily leave 2PM and flew to Seattle, Washington, in September last year.

Then on February 25 this year, JYP Entertainment announced that Jay would not come back to 2PM and that it had terminated Jay’s contract.

Two days later, JYPE and the remaining six members of 2PM held a meeting with the representatives of 2PM fan clubs in Korea to discuss the issue about Jay. In the meeting, the members of 2PM admitted that they all agreed to let Jay out of the group.

The 2PM fandom became divided but Jay’s fans never left him. Even while Jay was in Seattle, his fans continued to send him gifts and do charity work on his behalf.

While in Seattle, Jay concentrated on his b-boying, joining contests and restarted his life as a private citizen.

Then in March, Jay became visible again on the internet when he set up his own YouTube channel and uploaded an a cappella version of “Nothin’ on You”. The video became viral, garnering 1.5 million views in just 24 hours.

The rest is history.

During the Manila press conference, Jay said being positive and good was the best lesson he learned after leaving 2PM.

“The most important thing is just to be good to people around you and to the fans.”

However, he was still mum on the exact reason he was taken out of 2PM.

“I can’t really clarify. I just want to leave it in the past. I just kinda look forward to try to be positive,” he said.

But Jay said he still loves the members of 2PM and he hopes that one day, they’ll be friends again.

“I haven’t met them (since coming back to Korea). I have nothing but love for the guys. I hope all the best for them. Hopefully one day, we can just be friends again…Just be brothers again like we are right now,” he said, referring to him and his AOM crew.

Jay Park Live in Manila Coverage

Fresh from the outstanding concert of the Rain-slash-Taeyang look alike, Jay Park, I really, really had a great time watching him performed onstage and made all the girls in the crowd go crazy!!! As in crazy! Hahaha!

Actually, I think I’m kinda deaf now from all the shrills and screams in this 2-hour concert which was held at the Hall 4 of SMX, SM Mall of Asia.

Part of the show was an interview to Jay Park where he answered all the questions sincerely.

There was also a part where Art of Movement (AOM) member shared their thoughts through an XOXO Game.

Jay Park together with AOM, his B boy group, performed and made the crowd wild as they strutted, stumbled and tossed themselves up in the air… REALLY FANTASTIC!

But do you know what made the crowd really wild?

It was when Jay Park finally tore his clothes and tossed it in the air! AS IN WILD CROWD!

Well, with his talent, good looks and yummy physique, who wouldn’t go crazy, eh? Hahahaha!

So, here, I’m sharing to you some of the pictures  and a video of his opening number  that I took while enjoying this awesome concert.

Now, I can’t help but to be excited about his comeback concert! Wee!
